Protección de Bola

Last year, my grandmother was admitted to the hospital. I had never seen her look so fragile in my entire life. I was terrified and alone. Shortly after being released, I moved in with her to look after her as she recovered. My grandma and I performed a ritual on the night of the supermoon. When the moon reached peak height, we draped a family blanket over the balcony. The blanket has been in our family for three generations; a symbol of Guatemala to me. We bathed the blanket under the moonlight, rejuvenating its ability to resguardar.

My images are set in my childhood homes, both inside and out. I layer family, fiction, and memory to highlight the fantasy in my reality. I am influenced by the indigenous and Brujeria customs of my ancestors, practicing integrated forms of spirituality amongst my family.
